Text Summarization
Synopsis
Text Summarization, although a longstanding research area, has seen rapid progress since the adoption of neural networks for text processing. While most of the existing summarization research focuses on news, our research aims to explore other document types such as social media posts, argumentative texts, podcasts, and news editorials. Each of these domains poses different challenges for modeling important content, generating summaries based on the target audience, and evaluating the summary quality. We also aim to develop visual interfaces and toolkits for demonstrating the state-of-the-art in deep learning based text summarization.
